  • A Speech Sound Disorder (SSD) refers to the way sounds are produced. A Speech Sound Disorder is comprised of an Articulation or a Phonological Disorder.

What is an Articulation (Articulation Disorder)?

  • An Articulation Disorder refers to making sounds with the coordination of movements from the jaw, lips, tongue, teeth, palate, and respiration.

  • Symptoms:

    • A child is unable to make or form a certain sound correctly

    • Inability to say a particular sound

What is a Phonology (Phonological Disorder)?

  • A Phonology Disorder refers to the pattern of words that are put together to make up sounds.

  • Symptoms:

    • Inability to make the sounds correctly

    • Ability to say the sounds but say them in the wrong order
